Ship O'Clock tells you which ship is passing your spot, and when — plus the tide, wind and weather there, all as times.

Ship O'Clock is an iPhone app for people who live, work or sit by the water. Drop a pin on your window, dock or beach and every ship headed past it gets a clock time — name, type, size and flag — alongside the next tide, the wind and the weather, all as times. Widgets show the next pass at a glance; Bells ring before it.

Ship O'Clock answers one question fast: which ship is passing, and when. Ships broadcast their position, speed and heading over public radio; Ship O'Clock reads that signal for the water around the places you care about and works out the moment each ship comes closest to your pin — your window, the dock, the beach. The result is a clock time, not a chart: "MSC Isabella, 1,200 ft container ship, passes Alki Point at 2:20 PM."

Everything else is a time too. High tide 4:05 PM. Wind builds to 18 kn by 3 PM. Sunset 6:52 PM. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets keep the next pass in view, and the Ship Clock widget's ship hand points at it on a dial whose rim is the tide. Bells, the app's alerts, play a short toot before a ship goes by, with a second toot five minutes out.

It covers the US and Canadian West Coast and the Texas Gulf, with live ships in Puget Sound, San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles/Long Beach and more water switching on. No adverts, no analytics, no background location. The core app is free; Bells are part of Pro, from $5 a month. It helps people watch; it never sends anyone to the water.

Ship O'Clock is made by a one-person studio on Puget Sound, built for the question every window on the water eventually asks: "what ship was that, and when is the next one?"
